11:30 am
Ok, I'm gonna see how far I get this time. I've seriously had like 4 posts saved to drafts over the last couple of weeks that have never eventuated. So now I've lost track of everything I have to update about, but anyway.
It is now 11.34am, Cohen has been asleep since 6.50am after sleeping from 8.30pm till 6.20am. I mean really, how much sleep does one little person need?? It is definitely an upside-down world when you are WAITING for your 15-wk old to wake up. But I need to do food shopping, Brayden needs a haircut, I need to
and sure enough, he just woke up. BBL!

09:50 pm - You Know You Don't Get Out Much When.... You DO actually manage an afternoon out and upon your return your daughter points to your Levi's, your earrings and your watch and asks 'What's that?' Sadly, I'm not kidding. How sad is that? Funny in retrospect, but at the time I was going between utterly depressed, completely mortified and fiercely determined that it would not occur again!
So yes, that was on Sunday after I attended the baby shower of a very good friend who is expecting next month. Had a lovely time, managed TWO glasses of wine (coz I expressed before I left) and enjoyed having my hands to myself for a while as everyone played pass-the-parcel with Cohen. His feeds have become spaced out enough now that I can actually squeeze in a drink or two periodically, which I have been doing over the last week or so. The last time I drank anything of significance prior to this was at Amanda's hen's night which was the first weekend in June last year...so nearly 12 mths ago!! No wonder I have missed it...just being able to have a glass of wine with dinner again occassionally is lovely.
Life has been fairly routine since my last post - and destined to remain that way for a little while yet! Cohen is now sleeping around 9 hrs a night in one stretch, so the worst of the sleep deprivation is over and I can hopefully get him to drag it out for another couple of hrs before too long! He doesn't do it every night, but consistently enough in that his long sleep is always at night and always between 6-9 hrs, so defnitely can't complain. Have even had a 5-hr sleep during the day at one stage, but genereally two sleeps of around 1.5hrs each and another nap of 40 mins or so, so still a bit of work to do on the routine here! He has been suffering a bit from colic/reflux/wind which is causing problems with his sleeps during the day, in that he settles beautifully, but within an hour the griping pains wake him up and with all of the chaos and commotion that is generally going on at my house during the day plus the daylight factor means I have trouble getting him to go back down again, so as much as I've fought myself about it for weeks now I'm going to get him some medication! Having a baby that actually wants to sleep and sleeps well if nothing is bothering him is a blessing, so why the hell I keep arguing with myself about medicating him is beyond me! Stupid mother-guilt.
So this week I'm looking forward to a visit to the hair salon on Wed morning, during which I not only get my hair done but get to have a coffee and catch up with all sorts of people! Then on Thurs night the Family Centre is running a Manjimup Mum's ''Me" Time night, which I'm looking forward to so much I was the first one to get a ticket! It's a night for mum's only with a coffee lounge, wine bar and pamper studio where we can all hang out and gossip and have mani's, pedi's, facial's and massages together. Bliss. Then, of course, a couple of days later I managed to score a birthday on the same day as Mother's Day, so it's a big week for me! Double presents as well, not half, just in case you were wondering how it works :)
Makes me think about the last cause for celebration I had, which other than when Cohen was born, was our 5th anniversary in Feb. It turned out that because Cohen was early, it was only 3 nights before he WAS born, so seems like soooo long ago now! We had a lovely night and it was soooo needed by both of us, proven by the fact that we were barely on speaking terms when we actually left to go to dinner and I was thinking more about divorce than marriage (haha...long story!) It took both of us quite a while to actually calm down and get a conversation going. But in the end we did enjoy each other's company and get back to just being a couple instead of overworked parents!! We stayed the night at the motel that houses the restaurant where we had dinner while the kids had a sleepover at Nanna & Grandad's, so we even got a sleep in and a HOT breakfast! If we had known then that our #3 would be arriving in a matter of days, we might have even made a point of enjoying it even more...hindsight is a wonderful thing!
And now...as I have recently become addicted to watching Ellen....I must go as she has Matthew McConaughey on and...YUM!

Dear Journal,
My name is Kelly and I have sinned...it has been 9 weeks since my last entry...
Funnily enough our newest bundle of joy, Cohen Jack, is 9 weeks old tomorrow. Say no more! It's not that I haven't had the time now and then to update, I have just seriously lacked the inclination. Today however, I decided to bite the bullet and get back into it.
So yes, Cohen arrived on February 11 at 7:10pm, in a big fat hurry. We got to the hospital at about five minutes to seven, and made it only as far as my room on the ward where my midwife was still getting everything ready for me after recieving Ben's phone call about 15 minutes earlier. To cut a long story short, my doctor came in with all of his epidural equipment ready to go (I had been constantly reminding him that I WAS having drugs this time), took one look at me, probed my tummy (which broke my waters), went white as a sheet, informed me that there would be no epidural necessary, started frantically doing all of his doctor-type things and caught our baby boy about 5 minutes later :) He thought the fact that I didn't get to have any pain relief for the third time quite hilarious. I, on the other hand, did not, and made sure everyone knew it! Anyway, after everyone had a little bit of time to get over the shock of the super-fast delivery, Ben & I had to deal with the shock that we had a little boy....I was dead-set it was a girl! I don't know why, and considering I thought the photos from the 20-wk scan looked like a boy and I had signs at about 35 wks that were screaming boy, I REALLY don't know why I kept insisting it was a girl. Either way, we were absolutely over the moon as we had both always wanted 2 boys, and he is just divine in every respect :)
He is currently asleep, has been for about the last 2 hours and is scoring more and more brownie points with mum every day in the sleeping department! He has only been waking once a night for a feed for about the last 5 weeks and has been going straight back down for another 3-4 hrs, so very happy with that. Not that I haven't had my fair share of sleepless nights as every mum with a new baby does, but thankfully there hasn't been too many and when there has, I've been dealing with it fairly well. Which I guess is what happens with the third baby...by then your body is well accustomed to surviving on little sleep!
Brayden and Tahni just absolutely adore him...Brayden is brilliant, however Tahni is still coming to grips with the concept of 'gentle'. She is getting better, but I certainly can't leave Cohen on the floor or even in his swing or chair unattended when she is around! We have only had one "pick the baby up and carry him'' incident with no major damage or lasting effects on Cohen's behalf, but I learnt my lesson and he now only gets tummy time when Tahni is asleep/not home! Brayden is more than trustworthy with him and is lovely and gentle...they are going to be such good mates.
Okay so enough about that for the moment....I'll update more bits and pieces about Cohen as I think of them, so forgive me if I seem to back track every now and then.
Since Cohen was born life has been fairly routine...as much as it can be...and at times pretty monotonous and mundane, but my days are chocka block and the weeks are just flying by. One minute its 7am and the next minute its 4pm and I'm having to start the evening rush. Between 5-8 at our house is just bedlam most nights, but my husband has been amazing and I'm not sure how I would have managed without him! My fears pre-birth about how I was going to deal with him not coming home from work until after the kids were in bed and disappearing to mates houses every other night were completely unfounded....although I haven't mentioned it, it seems he was just getting it all out of his system (subconciously even??) and with the exception of a handful of nights, has been home every night helping with dinner, bath and bed times. Impressed wife!
Since my last update, I have also celebrated my niece's 1st birthday, my nephew's 3rd birthday, learnt my sister will be giving me another niece/nephew in August, welcomed another little 'nephew' into the world in my beautiful friend Amanda's baby boy Jed (born 10 days after Cohen...destined to be besty's!), enjoyed a wonderful visit from Lisa & Eloise all the way from Dubai at which time I learnt I will be welcoming ANOTHER 'niece/nephew' come September, and have seen two of my friends expecting babies late May & mid-June respectively progress in their pregnancies. This is going to be some year!! I have pretty much scratched 2009 of our calendar in terms of the fact that we won't really surface into the real world again until about this time next year, but it's lovely to have all of these to look forward to! I am dreading the onset of another Manjimup winter, and just hope it passes quickly. Shudder! y We have just enjoyed a lovely long Easter weekend with gorgeous weather and Bens mum & grandma visiting for a couple of days. His grandma was supposed to stay on for another week and help me around the house a bit and with the kids whilst I feed Cohen etc (always a mission trying to keep them out of trouble and/or from killing each other whilst I do this) which I was looking forward to, but I think she got a bit of a fright after spending 2 days in the midst of it all and decided about half an hr before Ben's mum left yesterday that she was going home too! I was a bit disappointed, as were the kids, as strangely enough we were all looking forward to a bit of variety in the company department, but I spose at 76 I can't blame her for bailing! I did forget to mention that I only have either Brayden or Tahni home each day while the other is at daycare, and neither here on Fridays, as I'm sure this probably would have made a difference, but oh well! I spent the first 3 weeks after coming home with Cohen struggling to keep my head above water as there were still 4 days out of 7 that both B & T were home together and we were all going crazy with all the adjustment that had to happen - it just all started to get on top of me, so this new arrangement has certainly saved my sanity and the kids love it too. It makes the weekends much more pleasant as well as they actually enjoy being together, instead of being sick of the sight of each other. I'm sure Cohen appreciates me not spending an entire feed yelling in his ear as well.
Okay, my husband is home today with an apparent 'headache' and sore neck/back, which is either a delayed hangover after the massive bender he went on with the boys on Sunday night when Gary & Leanne were here, or the result of falling asleep on the floor in the middle of doing a jigsaw with Brayden last night, I haven't decided yet. Either way, I should actually make the most of him being here and Cohen & Tahni both STILL being asleep and go and do something constructive!
Promise I will be back soon :)

08:37 pm - Yikes! I keep forgetting about this thing...nearly a month without a post is a bit ordinary! It has been a very crazy month though...and things are about to get a lot crazier in a couple of weeks so I'd better post now!
Tahni had a lovely birthday...she wasn't quite sure what all the fuss was about but was more than happy to open more presents so soon after xmas! We got her a big Play'n'Grow kitchen which has adjustable heights and extra bits & pieces as she gets older, so should last her til she is about 5. It now lives in my kitchen, but it is very handy for keeping her occupied and out of my hair doing her own 'cooking' whilst I'm doing mine! It's also a big hit with Brayden (go figure), so I'm constantly having to stop him from taking over, but hopefully the novelty will wear off. Anyway, we headed out to Fonty's Pool about mid-morning for a lovely afternoon swimming & bbq'íng with the family and a couple of friends. Turned out some other friends whose little girl turned 1 on the same day had the same idea, so we got to join forces and share friends! Was great, especially as Tahni & Ella know each other from daycare as well...they were very cute. Tahni had actually been quite sick with a vomiting bug on the Thurs & Fri beforehand, which made for a couple of horrendous nights of me changing spewy beds and clothes in the middle of the night, made worse by the fact that Ben was down the coast and couldn't help, but she was thankfully over it by her birthday.
We had spent the previous day down at Peaceful Bay (as it appeared this was the only way I was going to get to see my husband!) chilling out on the beach & catching up with Amber & Phillip, Ryan & Kat and the rest of the Phillips's, which was lovely. Finally got a bit of quality time getting to know Caden, who is just gorgeous. We left about 4.30ish and I was fully intending to get home and make Tahni's bday cake, wrap presnts etc, and Ben was supposed to be right behind me, but as it turned out I came down with Tahni's bug on the drive home and spent the night throwing up and doing not much else. My husband deciding to get home at 11pm (right behind me my arse) didn't help matters and he copped a nice earful when he finally did arrive. I found myself wrapping Tahni's presents at about 2am when I finally started to feel better, but given all this, by the time we arrived home from Fonty's on Sunday arvo I was SHATTERED. Took me a good few days to fully recover!
I had to be organised by the Thursday though, as I was taking both kids to Perth on my own to the Blues Clues Live show at Arena Joondalup. It was a fairly pleasant drive up (in my swanky new car woo woo!), and we stayed at Gary & Leanne's so it was nice to both catch up with them and have them spend some time with the kids. Bedtime was a bit interesting, as they both discovered they could get out of their bedrooms (something they can't do at home as the doorknobs are too high) and kept getting up, to the point where at one stage they were going in all directions, were soooo overtired that they were just running on adrenalin and I'd had enough and needed to SIT DOWN, so I just had to resort to yelling and threats :P The next day, Friday, was the day of the show and happened to be the worst day EVER it could have been on, when it hit 42 degrees in Perth. Given the show was on the basketball stadium at Arena Joondalup (i.e. no airconditioning), it was not entirely comfortable, but wasn't as bad as I thought. Ben's mum came to the show with me and then took Brayden back to her place for the afternoon, and Tahni & I went back to the Russo's and had a nice long nap in the aircon! We picked Brayden up after Tahni woke up and then Gary & Leanne had arranged for Gen & Josie to come over that night for a bbq with their two kids, who are both the same age as my two, so they all had a great time. Tahni went to bed not long after the usual time, but there was no way I was going to get Brayden to go if Connor was still up, so it was about 11pm by the time he finally got into bed. Latest he'd been up in a VERY long time! Given all this activity, I was guaranteed they would both sleep all the way home the next day. Which was great in theory until I discovered the Bridgetown bushfires had closed the highway, resulting in me having to detour via Nannup, adding an extra hour to the trip. Again, not an issue, if 1. I didn't have to stop to put more fuel in, resulting on both the kids waking up and 2. the road to Nannup being so narrow and windy I felt like I was driving in Rally Australia and both the kids were carsick...twice each...resulting in 4 extra stops. AARRRRGGGGHHHH!! It was the WORST trip home I had ever had, after a very exhausting week, and just wanted to crawl under a rock by the time I did eventually get home. The worst bit was that I was actually quite disappointed in the Blues Clues show and wondered why I had put myself through it all, but I know I would have regretted not taking them, so no point crying over spilt milk!
Since then, I have also finally made the change of putting the kids into the same room, which is still very much a novelty for both of them unfortunately. Brayden is actually quite good most nights and will drop off to sleep despite Tahni's incessant babbling and determination NOT to let him go to sleep, but some nights I just want to strangle them both. The hardest bit is coming to terms with the fact that they are both sleeping less than they otherwise would be just because they are sharing, with the lost time both at night and in theImornings when one always wakes the other up as opposed to them waking when they are ready, but we don't have much choice atm so I'll just have to get over it! I've left Tahni in her cot until they both get a bit more used to the sharing situation, as I will be right back to square one once she's in her big bed, (as she will no doubt climb out an average of 40 zillion times an hour which at least she can't do from her cot), but can't put it off forever so her new bedroom suite that I've had stashed in storage is getting delivered this week. If we could only win Lotto and buy a bigger house none of this would be a problem!
Pregnancy wise everything is going along smoothly - at 37.5 weeks today so predicting I only have another couple of weeks left, given Tahni was born at 39 exactly and every day I feel more and more like this one will be early too. Had a shocker of a sleep last night when I was still awake at 3am, but that's the first night in a long time I haven't been able to sleep properly, so can't complain too much. The heat hasn't been bothering me a great deal either as we just stay inside in the aircon during the hottest part of the day, then go outside once it's cooled down and eat icypoles & run under the sprinkler in the nuddy. The kids do at least, I just wish I could! Have got most things ready for my hospital bag, jusgt haven't got around to packing it yet, which I REALLY should do on the weekend, otherwise I'm just tempting fate.
Tahni is at Timbertots today and Brayden & I have been on our regular Wednesday 'lunch date', and now he's colouring in and I'm wishing that he was still having an afternoon nap so I could too! Sometimes he does drop off in his sofa while he's watching TV, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen today.
I might spend the afternoon making a couple of phone calls and sorting out our baby shower-cum-lunch in Bunbury next weekend for Amanda....can't believe that we will both have new little bubbas so very soon!

08:25 pm - Happy Birthday!
Wishing no-longer-a-baby Claire a very happy 1st birthday!!
Don't know where that year went...I'm sure it was only last week that you arrived!
Hope you have a fabulous day (even if you do have to go to daycare) and I look forward to Mummy sharing the next year of your life with us as you grow and change even more :)

02:03 pm More time to myself! I really can't afford to be doing nothing at the moment...considering I'm approximately 6 weeks away from giving birth, but it's TOO DAMN HOT to be bothered doing anything.
I couldn't remember what days I'd booked the kids in at daycare for this year and as they didn't open again until today, couldn't ring to check but I was thinking Brayden was in on Mondays and Fridays so I took a punt and took him down this morning. Turns out it's Tues for him, but considering they only had about 3 kids in the whole centre they said it was fine for him to stay! He didn't seem very impressed however - we were there just on 9 as normal and all the furniture is still packed away, including the toys, the partitions were up, there were only 2 carers there and they had a dropsheet on the ground with a few blocks on it. None of the usual chaos and mayhem that the kids find so reassuring! I'm sure things would have slowly reappeared again as the day has worn on. They definitely won't be having much outside time today anyway. Another disadvantage of daylight saving!
I'm saying bye-bye to my Berlina today - hard to believe it's been around for longer than Brayden has! Doesn't seem like that long ago that I got it, but I was only just pregnant with him. Have to muster up the energy to get outside and empty the glovebox, console and taketthe carseats out - I NEED A GARAGE!! The heat just about bowls me over just opening the doors at the moment. My new car is silver, so hopefully won't attract as much heat and will hopefully be housed somewhere with a garage/carport before too long. Ben is in Perth today to pick up the new one - he caught the bus up yesterday arvo. We were originally just going to get it freighted down here this week, but the girl who has brought the Berlina has been waiting a couple of weeks now and is dropping her money off this afternoon and can hardly contain her excitement, so I felt bad keeping her waiting any longer but wasn't going to go without a car in this weather! So I packed the husband off to pick it up, which he was more than happy to do funnily enough :P Last night was a pain in the bum without him here to help with the kids as I'm just over it by the end of the day atm, but tonight looks like being the same as I doubt he will get home before they go to bed. Something easy peasy for dinner! If Ben didn't need his for work it would have been okay with just one car for a few days, but he often needs to be anywhere between Northcliffe and Donnybrook at a moments notice, so me having his car wasn't really an option.
Tahni was driving me bonkers this morning - whenever Brayden is here all she does is try and play with his toys, and when he's not all she does is hang off me and and refuse to go and play with anything or go outside. Go figure!! We went down to a cafe for lunch though and she was an angel, and now she is having her nap so hopefully I get a couple of hrs peace! The last 3 days she has slept for 3 hrs in the arvo, so the heat must be wearing her out too. She was climbing up onto our bed the other day and slipped, collecting the solid timber of the foot on the way down. Blood was everywhere and it made such a crack that I was sure she had lost teeth, but turns out she only had a split bottom lip. I've found icypoles work best for split/cut lips & tongues - both as a nice distraction and to stop the bleeding at the same time! There is now a permanent indent of her two front teeth in the foot of our bed though, which once I got over it all thought was quite cute! I'm having lots of fun with my xmas present at the moment - Ben got me a fully automatic De Longhi Magnifico coffee machine, which is awesome. The seals on my old one bit the dust about this time last year and it was out of warranty, so I just took it to an authorised service rep to get them replaced and after having it in their workshop for 11 WEEKS!!! - a whole other story - they buggered it completely so that was that. Anyway this one is about 10 times as good - cappucino's on demand with just one press of a button! Got some yummy decaf coffee from my fave place in Marg River and have been enjoying it immensely. Ben also got me the McLeod's Daughters box set with all 8 seasons, and a heap of new Clinique skincare products, which I was very impressed about. He also got me a couple of new books I have been wanting which were my presents from the kids (luckily I knew this as Brayden's way of giving presents is to go 'here mummy, here's your book!), so I did very well and was very spoilt this year. I was at a complete loss with what to get Ben, as he has everything, and anything he doesn't have he buys himself!! In the end I got him a voucher to drive 8 laps in a fully race-modified V8 Supercar, which he was very happy with. Brayden wanted to get him some new tools so we went and picked out a super duper screwdriver set as he never seems to have any on hand when needed, and he has also ruined my good Scanpan pot making popcorn so he got a popcorn maker from Tahni. And as for what he's getting for any birthday or xmas from now on, I have no idea!!
Speaking of birthdays, my little chicken turns 2 on Sunday. Going on 22 sometimes I think. Don't ask me where those two years went!! I'm going to attempt a butterfly cake as she is all about 'flutterflies' at the moment, but I can't be bothered with doing a test run, so however it turns out on the day is how it's staying! Someone said to me this morning that they couldn't believe she is just turning 2 as she speaks as well as a 3 year old, and I'm thinking yes and my ears feel like they belong to a 100 year old by the end of the day. She is such a foghorn as well when she talks that it's just headache material....wouldn't be so bad if she spoke softly!
Anyway, must go clean the car out to drop off for Sonya, hang out some more washing and then maybe have a cappucino and put my feet up for a bit if Tahni is still asleep. Really must get cracking on Brayden's room too so I can move her in there...her bedroom suite has arrived already and I'm so not organised so it's staying in storage for at least another week!

January 2nd, 2009
08:09 pm Here we are, back in the land of How Things Never Change. I just found my daughter sitting in an entire bottle of bubble bath that just happened to be within arms reach when she was at the basin brushing her teeth. I guess her arms have grown a couple of centimetres recently.
We are home by ourselves tonight as Ben & Brayden have gone to the beach camping tonight with a few other friends and their kids. It's been such a full on couple of weeks that I'm not sure Brayden even remembers what his own bed feels like, but these things happen at this time of year!
So our break in Perth was really good, although I didn't get to do nearly as much relaxing as I would have hoped. This was fairly predictable, but I was hopeful nevertheless! It did feel good not to be running around after the kids were in bed tidying up and doing dishes etc though. I just left all of the mess and sat on the couch....was lovely! We had a pool and an outdoor spa, though we only used the pool given my present condition. The kids loved feeding the horses and the chooks, and I loved having something to feed all of the food scraps to! Spent the early part of last week doing the last of our xmas shopping for each other (the kids were taken care of), which wasn't too difficult considering we had both cars. Wednesday night was the traditional xmas eve family feast at Ben's mums which was great - the kids got to open a present each from Ben's aunty & uncle (who never had kids of their own so spoil ours rotten), which they both loved and which kept them occupied while the adults socialised. Our Secret Santa was lots of fun, although I was one of the first ones to choose and the present I got (and really liked) got claimed by someone else and the second one I got I didn't like as much. Had to put the kids to sleep in the same room which definitely gave me a taste of things to come in the next month or so....nightmare!! So not looking forward to them sharing, but we don't have a choice unfortunately. Anyway, it was a very late night and by the time we got home, transferred the kids, finished off a bit of wrapping, tidied up, filled stockings and carted all the presents from their hiding places to under the tree, it was almost 2am by the time I got to bed. It was about the same time last year after Ben & I finished putting the swing set/slide together and I thought this year would be different...pfft!
Christmas Day was great...so much fun...the kids are at such great ages for it...especially Brayden, and we were all very much in the xmas spirit. Tahni was first to surface and as we were also upstairs, she sat on our bed going through the contents of her stocking before we heard the squeals from Brayden about half an hr later. I think it went something like "Oh my goodness goshness! Mummy look what Father Christmas did to our Christmas tree!" So cute. I was hoping to get downstairs before he woke up to get it on video camera but was too late unfortunately. We were so engrossed in what Tahni was doing that we didn't hear his door open. Anyway the contents of their stocking kept them occupied for long enough for us all to have some breakfast & freshen up before we started with the loot under the tree. Fortunately they are also not quite at the ages when they just CAN'T POSSIBLY WAIT...not sure that we will have the same success this year though! They loved all of their presents and it was nice for them to have some new things to play with finally! We obviously didn't take any of their regular toys with us, so they had been a bit bored at times and we had to resort to a couple of cheap colouring books etc pre-xmas. Ben's mum & grandma came about mid-morning, we all had lunch together and they stayed till about 4pm, then just the four of us spent the rest of the afternoon going for a swim and relaxing. It was very different for me not being with my family and I did miss it, especially the kids being able to share their excitement with Harlee & Mia, but on the other hand it was nice to just be together as a family too and not be totally run off our feet. I am looking forward to staying home next year though...sorry, THIS year!, and being with everyone. The weather was just right the whole time - nice and mild, and it appears we timed it just right. Was 39 the day after we left and has stayed hot ever since, with the forecast the same for the next week too. Not quite as bad here thankfully, but still hot. We didn't get any of the storms that they had down here the day after we left, just really strong winds. Someone was definitely on our side!
Boxing Day we took the kids to Whiteman Park and rode the steam train, checked out the Wildlife Park and had some lunch, which was more nice family time. It did get quite warm though and we were all pretty exhausted by the end of it. Especially me in my waddling, swollen-feet state. On Saturday I had hoped to be able to spend the day packing and getting ready to go home at a nice leisurely pace, but ended up having visitors (Perth friends & fam) ALLL day....the last of which didn't leave until nearly 11pm that night, so there went that idea! Hence by the time we finally got going after a completely crazy, hectic & stressful morning, it was after 1pm. I beat Ben home by about 45 minutes, then when we got home we had to do a quick unpack and re-pack and head out to my mum & dads so they could see the kids and give them their xmas presents. We had worked out this was really the only day we could do it, unless we waited until this coming weekend. We had just hoped to get there in time for lunch, not dinner! Both the kids had had decent sleeps in the car, so it wasn't too bad. We had a bbq for tea, the kids opened their last presents (finally), and we all stayed the night and headed home early the next morning, as I had a docs appt at 9.30am. Crazy, crazy! I was very pleased to discover though that not only had I not put on any weight, I'd actually lost about 200g...yay! Baby is on the smallish side, but I'm not really concerned about that! He/she is growing well, just heading for probably around 7lb at this stage. Tahni was 7lb 1oz, so this goes a bit further to confirming my suspicions that it is another girl.
Tues & Wed were spent up to my eyeballs in washing, unpacking, shopping and trying to find homes for the mountain of STUFF we brought home. I didn't get a chance to de-clutter the kids rooms and get rid of their old toys before we left, so I have to try and do that over the weekend. At which point we will begin the process of moving Tahni into Brayden's room *shudder*. She will go in there in her cot at first, until they both get used to the idea, then we'll put her 'big bed' in there. I hate the fact that there will be no more sleep-ins by either one of them which they currently do have if they've had a big day or big few days for whatever reason, as the minute one is awake the other one will also be awake, but these things happen when bedrooms are shared. Mum will just have to deal with it! When we were away (on xmas eve in fact), Tahni decided she would discover how to climb out of the porta-cot which made life VERY interesting...especially considering she was upstairs...but thankfully she hasn't done it since we got home.
New Years Eve was a very quiet one obviously....we just got the kids into bed and then settled back with some munchies and movies and drinks...Ben with his usual Turkey & coke and me with my sparkling grape juice :( He fell asleep at about 11.45pm but I kept watching the movie and woke him up so he could mumble happy new year to me, then go back to sleep. And I followed about 5 mins later, so that was that! New years day we went out to the farm again as Ben wanted to take his bike for a bit of a ride, and it turned out Amber, Chris & Mia were also going out for lunch and mum & dad were babysitting Harlee as well, so we had everyone there (except Matt), which was nice. We ended up staying the night again and came home just before lunch today, and there goes another week! I'm just about to have an icecream, put my feet up, watch a movie and enjoy the peace and quiet that has been sadly lacking in my life of late! Kids are back at Timbertots next week, and life will return to normal - for 6 weeks or so anyway! I have sooooo much to do before the baby arrives...but looking forward to doing it all nevertheless. Also can't wait for a nice 'holiday' in hospital again! Maybe not looking forward to transitioning Tahni quite as much (she had her first go at wearing her knickers the other day - toilet training is definitely not the easiest process when you are 7 mths pregnant!), but it all has to be done so no avoiding it.
Loz & Gav are attending Southbound this weekend and we will hopefully be able to catch up with them on Sunday, which will be fantastic, and also looking forward to seeing the Selman's when they are in West Oz again at the end of the month....lots to look forward to!
Oh yeah, and we had more people look through our house today (BAD day to do it hahah..what a pigsty), and they seemed really keen so we will see what comes of that. The downside to this being the fact that there is NOWHERE to rent/buy/build in Manji at the moment, so if it does sell, what the hell do we do??? Guess we'll cross that bridge if we need to.
Hope everyone has a happy & healthy 2009!

December 18th, 2008
02:36 pm This is the last chance I will get to update for a while probably, as we are off on our Christmas holiday tomorrow! Yay! On one hand it seemed like it was never going to get here, but on the other the last couple of weeks have just flown. Have been racing around like mad this morning getting stuff done, but think I may actually be halfway organised by tonight.
Tahni is at daycare today as it is her regular day, but I didn't drop her off until later in the morning as it is their xmas party tonight, so she is going to be there longer than usual. I was hoping she would sleep in a little as we were out and about yesterday and she didn't have much of a nap, but Ben went to Bunbury today and left early, deciding to clomp through the front of the house over the creaky floorboards in his squeaky sneakers and promptly woke both the kids up. Like, what is so hard about going out the back door?!?!? Men. Consequently, Brayden is also very tired today but refuses to have a nap, so I've put Dora on for him while he lays down in his sofa and hopefully he will crash. After we dropped Tahni off, we went and got the mail, posted Caden's present, dropped off Harlee's and Mia's presents and did the shopping required to make Rice Bubbles snowballs, which are now setting in the fridge. This afternoon we're going to put them into gift boxes as little gifts for all of the kids' carers at Timbertots.
Ben blew the clutch on his car on the weekend, which is STILL sitting in the Nissan workshop waiting to be repaired. Same old story - ''it will be tomorrow, oh it will be the day after, blah blah". All I know is that is happened on Sunday, it's now Thursday and we're leaving at lunchtime tomorrow, so it kind of HAS to be fixed today!! We're taking both cars tomorrow and Brayden is going with Ben whilst Tahni is coming with me, but we need to pack & load the cars tonight. If it's not done, they're just going to have to lend him a new one for 10 days!!
Went to Bunbury with Mum last Monday by ourselves, which was lovely as far as having a day out is concerned, but wasn't very productive for me from a shopping perspective as everything I had hoped to get was sold out everywhere! Therefore ended up spending most of our time hunting for things mum needed, so it was a very productive day for her. We had to kill a bit of time in K-Mart as the power decided to go out just as we were getting ready to leave, so had to wait half an hr for the backup systems to reboot the cash registers. Pain in the bum as mum can't stand for very long, so she just had to wander in the dark while I stayed in the line. Got some great deals on summer clothes for the kids, as they had 40% off all kids clothing. Now that the weather is finally warming up, they might actually get to wear a bit of it!! Sunday was lovely and hot, then the last 3 days have been drizzly & overcast again. So crap. I'm over trying to squeeze them into their too-small long sleeve shirts!! Today is beautiful though, and is apparently going to stay that way except for a bit of a black spot on Sunday. Forecast is 31 degrees for xmas day, so I'm happy with that!
All of my shopping was for the most part complete by mid last week, and I sat up till midnight on Saturday wrapping it all. With my husband watching from his position sprawled on the couch. He reckons he can't do it coz he's crap at it and it always ends up wrong, but I pointed out that's maybe because HE DOESN'T DO IT!! This is the last year I'm doing it by myself though, so he's going to have to learn. Had one more DVD to get for Tahni and their presents from 'Santa' for the party tonight which I got on Tues, so finished all of the wrapping Tues night and they're all ready to go in the car tonight. So glad that it's all finished and was actually made easier by the fact we are going away, as there is only so much you can travel with! No working outside putting together swing sets and slides until 2am this year anyway. Will actually be able to kick back and relax on xmas eve (and preceeding days instead of racing around shops!), which will be lovely. Looking forward to being able to spend time in the pool with both the kids too, instead of only being able to take one at a time. Which leads me to the thing I am looking forward to the most - having my husband around!! My goodness me, I won't know what to do with my time. It will be very different for me being away from my family as it will be the first time ever I haven't been home for xmas (apart from the year Ben's dad was admitted to palliative care on xmas day, which I'd rather not remember), but being the mum of my own very excited little family makes up for it somewhat. The fact this is the case is still kind of surreal, considering the xmas's when I was the excited kid and someone else was the mum doing all the work only seem like yesterday!
Pregnancy-wise everything is going fine - my GTT came back normal, as did the last round of blood tests, but my iron levels are a bit low again (same thing happened with Tahni), so I'm trying to eat more red meat to avoid having to take ikky iron supplements again. Other than that, we're approaching 8-9 weeks to go and everything should be fairly routine...will have my Strep B test at 32 weeks and will start taking Raspberry Leaf again around the same time - my NUMBER ONE tip for fast and effective labours ladies!! Stuff these stories about being in labour for 12 hrs and only dilating 3cm etc - pffft to that. Raspberry Leaf, Raspberry Leaf.
Okay, time to get cracking again. Have to clean up the kitchen & bedrooms, vacuum, straighten my hair, pack the gift boxes, start packing the suitcases and then head down to the xmas party, hopefully with a bit of makeup on if I have time! Very excited about hearing Brayden's class sing their Christmas Carols for us, which he has been practicing in earnest around the house for the last 2 weeks. Will be so cute...I know I will cry! Mind you, I might cry for different reasons if he starts singing "Shit Bum Bells" like he was the other day, just seeing if he could throw in the new words he has learnt from the token troublemaker at daycare recently....HMMMM. With a bit of luck he's forgotten that bit!
Okay, hope everyone has a wonderful, festive Christmas filled with lots of laughter, love, fun and frivolity and special times with family & friends :) xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

01:48 pm Oh and...my back pain has all but completely disappeared!! So weird. I get a slight twinge or ache if I ever overdo it, but nothing like the 24/7 pain I was in before. The only thing I can think to put it down to is the warmer weather...it was at it's worst when it was still cold and wet and I don't deal with the cold very well at the best of times, so that's the only thing I can think of. This also makes sense given that it didn't give me the slightest problem when I was in Dubai. Definitely weird, but I'm very thankful nevertheless!!
P.S. It is EXTREMELY annoying, and a pretty sad indication of where our levels of education are at in this country at present, that you cannot buy kid's watches with a dial face ANYWHERE. They are all digital. That to me is just atrocious. I think it was the other way round when we were kids and we were lucky to actually find a digital one!

03:42 pm
Been a bit slack at updating, but to be honest it's the last thing I feel like doing when I have 5 minutes to myself lately! Plus the mouse is dodgy on my new laptop and keeps making the text jump all over the place when I'm typing anything, which is uber annoying.
Life has been going along fairly routinely, and I am just having a bit of a rest while Tahni is still asleep and before I pick Brayden up from Timbertots. We had a very busy morning with her getting a haircut and then us going swimming and out for lunch, so I'm expecting at least another half hour out of her! She was extremely good for her haircut - which she normally is, she was just extra good today. I think the novelty of the squirty water bottle (which she hasn't had before) helped a lot! She loved it. Her hair is now about 2-3cm past her shoulders when it's wet - otherwise her ringlets mean it sits just on her shoulders. Her fringe in her eyes was driving me bonkers, but I had put it off for as long as possible so we could get as close to xmas as possible. Brayden's is also overdue but he's in on Friday, so they should be all good until after new year.
Went up to Perth on the weekend to do the bulk of the xmas shopping and had SUCH a good time. Was in a filthy mood when I left at about 6pm on Friday night due to my husband pulling his usual stunts that occur whenever I'm supposed to be going somewhere, but had relaxed by the time I got to Bridgetown. Got to Amanda's at 9.30pm on the dot, and we were at Toys 'R' Us as planned when they opened just after 9 on Sat morning. Got the majority of what I had planned to get, quite a bit that I hadn't planned to get (luckily Manda was there with an extra trolley!), and we were out of there by 11.30 when it started to get crazy. We then dropped it all off back at her house and went to Carousel for lunch and girls shopping! We both did the dreaded purchasing of maternity bras while we had each other for moral support and advice, so it was nice to get that out of the way! Got a couple of nice dresses in Kmart and wasted another $40 on maternity jeans that I thought were better, but are just as annoying as the other two pairs I have! Found that by about 3.30 we were waddling, limping, looking everywhere for seats whenever we stopped somewhere, and yawning our heads off, so we called it a day! Oh, first we went to Baby on a Budget as Amanda had asked me to give her a hand with pram shopping, so that was fun too. Wish I had an excuse to upgrade - so many cool prams around now! Anyway she made a decision and loves it, and I'M JEALOUS coz I want the same pram, but in any case it was a very productive day for both of us. Spent the rest of the afternoon just relaxing and chatting (some more), then got ready and headed out for a lovely quiet dinner with Stacey in Vic Park. Was nice to have a girly night out that wasn't somewhere loud and exhausting! We had a really good night and my tummy hurt from laughing by the time we went home! Would have been nice to have a few drinks, but at least I wasn't alone for a change! Kent was away all day Sat and Sat night for speedway (and was incidentally a very sick boy when he got home on Sunday!), so we had the house to ourselves and sat up wayyyy too late chatting and gossiping.
Slept in till NINE O CLOCK in the morning which was omg sooo lovely....and unexpected coz I normally can't sleep in even when I want to! Was so nice. Chilled out for an hr or so over breakfast, then I had to head up to Ben's mums to pick something up and got back around 12, at which point we headed back to Carousel to do more shopping! Had another lovely lunch, I got some much needed new pillows & sheets for our bed, then went back to Manda's to load everything up (thank god I had taken the kids' car seats out!) and headed home. Think it was about 3.30 by the time I hit the road, so was just before 7 by the time I got home. Only to find a deserted house that looked like it had been hit by a bomb. I nearly turned around and drove back to Perth. Like, is it so hard just to TIDY things a bit????? Anyway, found that they were all at a friends place and I was summonsed there for tea, which is the last thing I felt like doing, but thankfully only stayed until the kids were fed and then we all came home.
Spent all of yesterday cleaning (obviously my penance for needing a weekend away to do xmas shopping for OUR kids! pfft), so was thankful that I only had one of them today! Have had another very productive day, finding a couple of toys that I couldn't find in Perth in Toyworld down here, and for $10ea less than what they are anywhere else! I should stop writing off the Manjimup shops so quickly. So now I'm pretty much done with the shopping, and very impressed about that! We're heading back up to Perth on the 19th, so will have to have it all wrapped and ready to go by then, but have plenty of time to do that stuff when the kids are in bed at night. Going to be so much fun this year - Tahni is going to love her doll's baby set and her Dora motorised bike!
Saw an old schoolmate today at the pool who is down visiting her family, and now has 4 kids including twins!! And she looks great - fit and trim and super-organised and the kids are lovely. Don't you hate that?!?!
Was very excited to also find out last week that two of my friends from down here are expecting babies next year as well!! They are close friends themselves and in a total coincidence are only 10 days apart in their due dates (in June), so very similar to the situation with Amanda and I!! Which is also very spinny considering they are also friends of Amanda's going back years. Will be so nice to have some friends down here with bubba's so close in age to mine for a change! Can't wait.
Okay, must go and get cracking on the 'evening shift' and pick Brayden up, although it's 4pm and Tahni is still asleep! Will give her another half an hour before I start bashing around to try and rouse her!

01:36 pm
My lovely friend Lisa has a problem with continuing to happily listen to the toddler CD playing in the car stereo for any number of minutes when the toddler is not actually in the car. Well, I have discovered I have the same problem with the TV. I've been sitting here with Dora on for the last 20 minutes, which wouldn't normally be a problem apart from the fact that Brayden isn't here today and Tahni is asleep. And this is FAR from the first time this has occurred - it's definitely a worry.
So yes, Brayden is at Timbertots today and Tahni is nicely worn out after a busy morning of playing, shopping and swimming, so I'm not expecting her awake for a good 3 hrs. I sat down to make a couple of long overdue phone calls, and no-one is answering their phone! So now I'm doing this instead. When I really should be doing any one of the million other things I have to do, but so be it.
We have confirmed this week that we are heading up to the city for Christmas - from the weekend before to the weekend after. We've booked a place in Carramar that is on a working farm, with horses, dogs, cats, chooks, sheep etc which will be brilliant for keeping the kids occupied, but also has a big house with a pool, spa and parents retreat. And only 5 minutes from Joondalup, so we are still nice and close to all the shops & restaurants. The only downside is that my darling husband has kindly invited his entire family to spend Christmas Day where we are staying. How nice of him. The whole idea was that we are spending Christmas with them, which is fine, but I was kind of hoping that given I will be 7.5 mths pregnant and away from home with two toddlers, I would be exempt from hostess duties. This obvioulsy escaped his attention, as usual! Anyway, I've just made it perfectly clear that I will not be doing a single thing in terms of time spent in the kitchen, so he'd better be prepared to organise a bbq or something and get everyone to bring the rest. Will be very different for me being away from my family for xmas, but we can't expect Ben's family to travel every year and we've bailed on them for the last 2 yrs when we said we would go to them, so this year it is. Quite looking forward to 10 whole days together as a family though, with no work in sight!! I won't quite know what to do with myself when Ben is actually around to help with shopping, cooking, bathing and bedtimes.
My back is still giving me grief to the point of me being in tears a couple of evenings last week, so I'm just hanging in their until my doc's appt tomorrow when I'm going to explain that there is a serious problem, not just the normal pregnancy aches and pains. The pregnancy massage helps for about two days, then it's back to the same old story. Hoping to get a referral to the pregnancy OT up at the hospital as she's really good and may be able to do something. I really can't keep taking paracetamol every afternoon just to get through the evening shift, which even then doesn't stop the pain completely. The pregnancy itself is going fine - at the end of the second trimester and getting a bit anxious about doing the whole labour/childbirth thing again VERY soon! I really should change the channel when House of Babies comes on. The baby's movements have slowed down a lot, which is making me second-guess myself in terms of the sex, as Brayden's movements were a lot more subdued that Tahni's were, and I've had quite a few other people with one of each sex say the same thing. Only time will tell I guess!
Had a lovely time during Amanda's visit last weekend. Her and Lauren came and spent the Saturday arvo with us which the kids loved, as Aunty Manda always gets sucked into things like pushing the swings and playing in the cubby house and colouring in (without much arm-twisting at all though I have to say!) - all those things that mum is always far too busy to contemplate. We then went up to their place that night for a bbq which was really nice - wayy to much yummy food, the kids had a ball playing together (to the point where I barely saw them), and we did lots of catching up. Courtney was down too, so it was good to see her again too (although I see her much more than Amanda!). She still can't believe we are actually both at exactly the same stage of pregnancy and insists we planned it - to which I keep insisting if we had tried to plan it, it wouldn't have happened! The boys had a good time catching up too, and Manda & I found we were able to pretend perfectly well with our $3 bottle of non-alcoholic sparkling! Tastes better than the real stuff I reckon. Anyway, we've got another catch-up planned when I head up to Perth in a couple of weekends time to do all of the xmas shopping. Kent will have speedway and I'm leaving the kids home with Ben, so we will have a lovely time I'm sure! Was very excited to hear that they are building a house, as we have also decided we're going to build, it's just a matter of where. Another thing we'll be able to compare notes on! So yes anyway, I know most of the big stuff that I'm going to get for the kids' presents, so just plan on heading to Toys'R'Us first thing on the Sat morning and just do the whole shebang in one hit. May also have to go to Big W to get one thing for Brayden, but that's no biggie. I've also planned to go up on the weekend when Carousel is open on Sunday, so I can spend Saturday shopping for the kids and Sunday for myself! I've already gotten most of the little stuff for their stockings (and their stockings themselves - so cute!!), but will probably find a few other little things to stick in there. Going to be heaps of fun this year, they are at such great ages for Christmas.
Seeing as Ben just went out and bought himself a 500cc Raptor 700 series quad bike...as you do...PFFT....he is getting NOTHING for Christmas!! I've also said that my trip to Dubai was more than enough for me, so it's all about the kids this year. Also, that way I can save up my list for our 5 year anniversary plus new baby in Feb - if five years of marriage, 3 kids and a workaholic husband aren't enough to warrant more diamonds, I don't know what is!
Okay, must go as my laptop battery is about to die, which is also a good sign that I should probably go and do something more constructive!

October 28th, 2008
01:11 pm - Quick Update This is take two, as the mouse on my new laptop is very sensitive and I previously lost all I had written! Thankfully it wasn't too much. Smithbrook was great fun, was so nice to enjoy the day together without having to have eyes in the backs of our heads. Just watching all the other littlies duck under the ropes and come within a whisker of being trampled by 600kg horses cantering past was enough to make me very thankful to our babysitters! Ben dropped Brayden off at the farm in the morning, where he was staying the night, and I took Tahni out to Vanessa's for the day - we picked her up on our way home. Both were extremely well behaved from all reports and Vanessa couldn't stop talking about what a pleasure Tahni was to have. Don't know whose child she actually had, but I'm sure it wasn't mine. Stephanie was very pleased to have a female friend of the same age to play with all day too...I would imagine two older brothers would get rather tedious! Tahni had a great anyway, and got very grubby and overfed with Vanessa's baking and was happily exhausted when we picked her up. She slept for 2.5hrs while she was there but was in bed by 7.30 and slept till after 8 the next morning. Which was bliss for us, without having Brayden home as well! Not that I wasn't up fairly early anyway, as we had another house inspection at 11am. Just as well for me, as I'd only just finished tidying up at 10.30 when they rocked up early. God I frikkin hate that!
Anyway, in other news, my arms, chest & upper back all got completely fried at Smithbrook and I've been paying for it ever since. Was very cautious too (or so I thought), as the last thing I thought about taking was sunburn cream considering we normally have to take jackets and umbrellas. So when it ended up being hot and sunny (what the??) despite the weather reports, had to be careful to keep out of the sun. Was only in it for I reckon 10 minutes, but doesn't take long with my skin. Luckily I wasn't drinking or it could've been a whole lot worse!! Like some people I have seen around since then....yowch. I tried not to think too much about all of the free wine I was missing out on and just concentrated on the showjumping! Was rather nice being in the corporate sponsors marquee's - got very spoilt. Also caught up with sooooo many people that I never get time to chat to properly with us all going about our daily business, so that was excellent too. Most of them were also sans-children and making the most of it. Will definitely be doing it again next year - with an extra babysitter! Had the worst night's sleep last night anyway, as the itching on my back was driving me insane and with burnt arms and shoulders as well, made it very hard to find a comfy position. Ended up getting up at about 1.30am and taking some paracetamol just to dull the nerves so I could get some sleep. Hopefully it starts to get better soon. You don't realise how much kids scratch your arms and back and neck until you have sunburn! Like Tahni suddenly grabbing hold of me and trying to clamber out of the Coles trolley this morning - caught me so by surprise and hurt like hell, I'm surprised I didn't throw her across the aisle!
Brayden is at Timbertots today and Tahni is asleep, so going to make a couple of long overdue phone calls and relax for a bit. Kids have adjusted fine to daylight saving, so it isn't too much of a drama at night. Blockout curtains - absolute must have! Having tacos for dinner - nice and easy and the kids love them, so I will be able to get everything cleaned up & packed away & kids into bed before my Tuesday night TV shows start!

03:18 pm
Ben walked in the door at 5:40pm last night. I'm surprised my heart is still beating. I'm sure I just stared at him for a full minute before it even sank in that he was actually home before the sun went down. So that was great - but then what does he do? 1. Peer into the oven to see what's baking for dinner. 2. Walk into the bedroom to get changed. 3. Sit down on the couch, turn on the computer and ignore the kids. GRRRRRRRRR. All previous statements regarding his good behaviour are detracted. He got off once I gave him a serve, but I really shouldn't have to keep doing so. Have had a hectic day today. Tahni was up at 7am which is EARLY AS HELL for her, and had woken up a couple of times during the night, so not sure what her story is. She resettles herself okay, but it probably doesn't make for a great night's sleep. As luck would have it she is at Timbertots today where she will also have minimal sleep, so she's just going to be in a lovely mood when she gets home. Hence why I am going to put together a lasagne and stick it in the oven before I pick her up, so I'm not tearing my hair out too much by 6.30. After I dropped her off, Brayden and I did the food shopping (big one, too much $$ spent), raced home and unpacked it, then got changed and went to the pool for a swim. Had the whole hydro pool to ourselves for the majority of the time, which was nice. Had some lunch there afterwards, which I always enjoy with Brayden coz I get to sit down and read the paper or something while we eat and then have a coffee, whereas with Tahni she doesnt sit still and has to be supervised every second.
Then I got my eyebrows waxed, booked a preg massage and then went to Target and spent another squillion dollars on their kids clothes and shoes sale. Actually it wasn't too bad considering I'm buying for two and paid 30% less than I normally would have, just made for an expensive day all up with the food shopping! It also included a couple of things to put away for xmas - I'm determined not to be waddling around the shops in December. Got Tahni her first pairs of knickers for her xmas stocking - toilet training will start just after new year. Well, will start in earnest anyway, as she is already familiar with the potty, just hasn't done anything in it yet. They are so cute - seems like only yesterday I bought Brayden his first pairs of little jocks (which he took great delight in showing everyone). How time flies! So yes, along with the stuff I got from Pumpkin Patch the other day, summer clothes/shoes are now all taken care of.
Didn't get my normal back pain last night for the first time in nearly 2 weeks - the baby must have moved or something?? It did start to kick in just before we sat down to eat, but the fact that I was able to sit down just as it was starting meant it didn't get too much worse. I actually managed to get through the majority of the ironing after the kids went to bed, which has been stacking up coz I haven't been able to stand up at night to do it. Felt very relieved when it was done, as I hate stuff stacking up like that and staring me in the face every day.
Speaking of the baby, I've noticed this one kicks and moves around a lot whenever I'm using the laptop, which I also remember happening with the other two. Makes me wonder what kind of radiation is actually being emitted?!? I probably should use a barrier between the laptop and me just in case. Says me half way through baby #3. Oh well, the other two weren't born with two heads, so maybe it's just the warmth/hard drive whirring that wakes them up!

October 22nd, 2008
01:52 pm I would really much rather be relaxing with a nice icy lemonade and my book, but I'm going to update anyway :P The weather really has surpassed expectations this week...it was forecast to rain all week, and apart from one hell of a thunderstorm on Monday morning (not much rain, just noise!) and a bit of rain on Tues night, that's been about it. The temps have still been gooorgggeeousss...enjoying it immensely. It has been cloudy some days, but not cold or wet. Yesterday it was very overcast and yuck looking in the morning (actually I think we did get a bit of rain), then by 3 in the afternoon it was bloody 35 degrees! Work that out. Anyway, it appears I achieved my goal of skipping out on the last of the dodgy, cold, rainy weather while I was in Dubai. Excellent!
Have just finished shopping on Pumpkin Patch outlet store for summer clothes for the kids on clearance. For $120 bux, I managed to get 5 t-shirts and a pair of boardies for Brayden, a top, dress, 2-piece top/crop pants set and a cap for Tahni, a maternity top for myself and [something cute in case Amber is reading!] for my niece for xmas. Not bad for $120 bux if you ask me! Would be struggling to do that in Big W even. I love PP Outlet!
I did manage to get over my post-holiday depression by late last week, after the house inspection on Thurs was over and done with. Before that, I was feeling very overwhelmed at everything that had to be done, missing the Selmans and thinking about all the fun things they were doing, still trying to get over jet-lag and the kids wanting to hang off me every second of the day because they had missed me, doing my best to re-establish the old routines whilst also having to deal with Ben working 12 hr days and not getting home until after 8 at night because of a big job he has been working on, so me being completely shattered due to all of the above by the time I fell into bed at night. It all got very tough, but by 11am last Thurs the house was super sparkling clean, Tahni was at Timbertots and Brayden & I were just about to walk out the door to go and do some shopping when mum turned up, so we all went shopping together. Had the house inpsection through when we got home, then Brayden had a 3-hr sleep and I collapsed on the couch and from memory, fell asleep for about the same length of time! So come Friday, I was on the up-and-up again and the worst of post-holiday depression was over.
Since returning from my holiday however, I have been having second thoughts about moving to Perth. It definitely won't be happening before the baby is born as first intended (much to Amanda's despair!), and I don't think I'm going to be prepared to do it for at least 3 months after, so that heads into Winter next year. LAUREN IS GOING TO BE SO UPSET!! Aren't you Loz?? :P Of course, it isn't all just about whether we want to or not either...it's whether it's actually possible, i.e. whether or not this house sells, which given the current economic state of affairs we have been plunged into recently, could be at least another 6 months. Which is annoying given that now is the best time to buy in Perth, but what can we do. I think once the increased FHB grant starts coming into effect it will move pretty quickly, but that's probably not going to be till early next year. All in all, I'm happy here for another summer. I really enjoy summers down here with the big spaces, bbq culture with our friends, beach-going weekends and just mucking around outside with the kids. It's only Winters that make me feel like crap and want to hightail it out of the place, so the fact that we won't be ready to move until the onset of next winter may all work out for the best. The universe has been pointing out a lot of things to me lately....that must be another one. I've also tossed up the possibility of building a house down here, which I would love to do, but that also signifies some level of permanency, so until we get a bit clearer on where we want to be, I'm not travelling too far down that road.
Ben has recently been working on a major contract fitting out a $2m avocado packing shed & management facility down here, which has been ongoing for about a month, but which he finally finished last night after another 12-hr day. Halleluljah. Big bucks in it and he did a great job, so came home very chuffed. I have also been very impressed with his behaviour in the husband/dad department since I got home, with a lot of initiative being shown in areas where it was previously non-existent! Never a word has been said as to WHY this is the case, mind you, but the acknowledgement is obviously there on some level, so I will be content with that! This is when he has actually BEEN home of course - but I have been trying hard to keep in mind that he is working hard for good reasons. After coming home so chuffed about how things went with the packing shed last night, he also informed me that we got the go-ahead yesterday for two more major contracts - also very big ones, to commence ASAP. One for supply and installation of 40 laptops for one of the schools down here, which this morning just got increased to include 16 desktops as well. The other for a major network upgrade to include 2 servers. He was obviously over the moon - I on the other hand, wavered between being very pleased and very NOOOOOO, NOT AGAIINNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Hopefully these ones don't take as long, but I will try to grin and bear it with thoughts of extra cash for xmas shopping, Tahni's bday and new arrivals in mind!
Things are starting to hot up socially around here - another reason I love this time of year! We have the Smithbrook Showjumping Derby this weekend (with none other than Beijing silver medallist Sonja Johnson competing...da da da dummm!), to which we have been invited to attend in the VIP tent with the managers of the aforementioned Advance Packing & Management. Just so happens the owners are also very involved in all things equestrian and sponsor the junior derby event, so worked out very well for us! I haven't been for the last couple of years to do either being pregnant or the kids being too little, and YES I KNOW I'VE GONE AND DONE THE SAME THING AGAIN!, but hell, I'm going to get babysitters, put some nice clothes on and make the most of it. Previously did the picnic chairs on the lawn with an esky thing, which was great, but the VIP tent with all food & bevvies provided will be even better. May even indulge in a champers! Oh, I had one at the Burj. Ok, so I'll put some orange juice in it :)
Now I'm sure I had something else to write about, but can't remember. I do know I have to try and book a pregnancy massage for some time when Ben can have the kids, in order to try and do something...ANYTHING...about this damn back pain I've been getting. Can't get an appt at the pregnancy chiro in Bunbury until January, so by then it's going to be kind of pointless. Brayden has been an absolute pain in the arse this morning - not sure what his story is, but it has generally involved whinging, crying, throwing tantrums, insisting on being pushed in the pram while Tahni walks (what the??), doing everything known to man he knows he is not supposed to do, and generally getting on my nerves. So given that I have approximately half an hr now until he wakes up, whatever else I had to write about can wait - I need to rest before the onset of Round 2! Hopefully sleep has done the trick though and he will be better when he wakes up.

11:48 am - Procrastinating... Feeling like crap today...have the makings of another cold. Typical, as soon as the sun comes out!! Have so much housework to do before another lot go through the house tomorrow lunchtime, and don't know where to start so I haven't started at all. Hardly a solution to the problem, I know, but having trouble mustering the energy to do anything at the moment. And as for asking my husband to actually be home at a reasonable hour so he can help me is apparently equivalent to asking him to cut off all of his limbs. I have no patience at the moment either, which is unusual for me, but definitely not the best when you have two toddlers. Especially when the favourite word for both of them at the moment is NO. Occassionally they use variations such as I'm Not, I Won't, I Don't Like It, I Don't Want To, I Can't or I Didn't, but you get the idea. At least Tahni is at Timbertots tomorrow and once the house inspection is over, I might be able to relax for a bit. Promised Brayden I would take him for a swim though - hoping he forgets (haha!), but he has a memory like an elephant and I doubt it very much.
Was very happy to hear the news last night that we are going to get a nice family bonus of $2000 at the end of the year! Yay for Kevin. Pity it wasn't a couple of months later or we would have scored $3000! This, in addition to the $5000+ we will get when the new bub is born, will at least mean we can have a nice xmas without too many bills afterwards. Still haven't decided what we are doing - it is definitely our turn to travel to Perth but I'm not sure whether I'm going to be up for this or not. Mostly because of the stress involved with finding somewhere toddler-friendly to stay for a few days at that time of year that isn't going to cost us squillions - i.e. virtually impossible. If anyone knows of a deserted house for approximately $20 a night, let me know :)

03:07 pm - I'm home... And have been since Thurs afternoon, but have been so up to my eyeballs trying to rearrange everything that I haven't had time to post.
My holiday was ammmazzzinnnggg to say the least....so so SO glad I went, and can hardly believe I was considering otherwise. It was just wonderful, but sadly already feels like it was almost a dream! Back cold, rainy and generally crap weather and my utilitarian existence as a wife & mum. The tiredness going right back to the weekend I left has caught up with me though, and I've been absolutely shattered come late afternoon. Seem to get a second wind in the evening though and aren't ready for bed when I normally would be, so I'm not sure which is worse! Hopefully my body clock sorts itself out soon.
The weekend I left was a very hectic one, with Ben not getting home till late the Fri night, then him working Sat morning and us being out for the rest of the day at a Grand Final bbq (which was moved indoors thanks to the weather). After which Ben didn't come home AT ALL - I was left to bring the kids home and do the tea, baths and bed shift by myself, then somehow found time to pack and get the house ready for a sale inspection at 10am Sunday morning (two guesses who organised that idiotic time for a sale inspection and then left me to prepare for it?!). I think I finally got to bed just before 1am and had to be on the road by 10:30am Sunday, so when Ben finally rocked in the door at around 8 I kindly informed him he would be dealing with the sale inspection by himself. Anyhoo, finally made it to Burswood at around 3ish where I met Amanda as we had tickets for Nova's Psychic Detectives Roadshow - very intruiging! Had coffee & cake afterwards and taked about all things pregnancy & parenting, then I headed to Ben's mums where I managed to get about 1 hour's sleep due to the rock hard bed, before I had to get up at 5am. Was so relieved to finally get on that plane!! Had about a 3hr stopover in Singapore and got into Dubai at around 8pm their time (midnight here), so it was a very long day. I haven't ever been able to actually sleep on a flight, so thought I'd feel a lot more tired than I actually was, but I guess just sitting, reading, dozing & watching movies helped to relax me somewhat! Couldn't eat much of what they served me on the Singapore-Dubai leg, but Lisa cooked up a yummy batch of spaghetti when I got there, so that did the trick!
We did wayyyy to much over the course of my 8 days there for me to be able to go into too much detail, but the highlight was definitely afternoon tea in the Skyview Bar of the Burj Al Arab. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience, and completely unforgettable! My sole shopping aim was to come home with some Dubai gold, which I did, so anything else was a bonus! Visited some amazing malls and souks and had lunches and dinners and some really lovely places, so I was very spoilt! I picked up a few little things for myself and some gifts for Ben & the kids, so was productive enough in that department, but would have liked to have brought a lot more! It is hard enough to buy clothes in my state as it is, but neglecting to remember the fact that the seasons are opposite as I did doesn't help! As a result, I couldn't buy a skerrick of summer stuff as I had planned and Lisa had to lend me half of her wardrobe, which I was very grateful for!! The best part for me of course was being able to spend some real quality time with her, Duane & Eloise, which has been barely possible over the last few years to say the least! It was also unbelievably nice NOT TO BE COLD for a change. Even though it was hot, it wasn't unbearable or stifling and was a lovely change for me. I already miss it!
Ben had plenty of assistance with his Mum & Grandma being here for 8 of the 10 days I was away, so he hardly walked a single day in my shoes! Typical. Believe it or not, less than an hour after I got back to Manji on Thurs arvo he was at work. Oh-my-god. Thankfully (and very luckily for him), Tahni was already in bed when I got there (an hour early coz he just had 'so much to do') and Brayden was very ready for a sleep, so I managed a 2-hr nap whilst they were sleeping. Spent the first 15 minutes lying there debating when the best time to get a divorce would be, then couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. The house was in an absolute STATE, he hadn't read a single word of the instructions he insisted I write, the kids beds were well past the stage of needing a linen change and there was nothing in the house to eat, but I could have almost put money on that being the case before I even left. Was just being optimistic and hoping for the best, against my better judgement!
Slowly regaining some sense of normality, though I still have a pile of washing to get through. Not stressing too much about it, as what else do I have to do?!?! Speaking of which, I just had to go and enrol the kids in swimming lessons, which was one of the things I left Ben instructions to do before I left and therefore wasn't done. As a result, their normal classes are now full, which means I have to re-juggle times, instructors and daycare/creche days, making things just slightly more difficult to manage than the streamlined plan I already had in place. GRRRRRR.
Annnyyywayyy.... I did come home to some good news....three new babies!! Tammy & Darren had a baby girl, Caitie Lee, Amber & Phillip welcomed a baby boy, Caden Jack, and Erin & Richie had Matilda Grace. All very exciting!! I managed to sneak a visit into see Caden the day I got back - literally going from the airport to the hospital - which was lovely. He definitely doesn't look his 9lb weight...he's so tiny but is heavy. Very cute though!! I wasn't allowed to take photos in case I woke him up, and as Amber is completely crap at corresponding at the best of times, it may be a while before I have a picture of him! He was being breastfed when I saw them, but given that Amber's milk wasn't in yet and going on a few of the things she said in that regard, I'm really not sure how she's going to go with it. Think they are planning to go home Monday so will give her a call tomorrow night to see how she is going....which will take a lot of mental preparation before I actually do it! Being informed about things I have already told her about several times over the course of the last three years, wondering if it has actually occured to her that I'm standing right in front of her, 5 months pregnant with my 3rd baby is quite emotionally draining! Gotta love her all the same.
Was so looking forward to seeing the kids by the time I got home, so I was a bit dark about the fact that Ben had put Tahni to bed early, especially since I'd asked him to keep her home from daycare so she was there when I got there! Nevertheless, the look on Brayden's face was classic. He stared at me for about 15 seconds, then it finally registered and his face cracked into a big grin, but then he ran to Ben and said "That's my mummy!", before he ran over to me and jumped up for a hug. When Tahni finally woke up I went in to get her up, and she just stared at me for about a full minute. I think in her still half-asleep stage she wasn't too sure if I was actually real! Was very cute. We had to wait until Ben got home from work before I gave them all their little gifts, but they were very happy. I managed to get Ben a big remote control Hummer at Dubai airport on the way home, which also came with a little one which was perfect. I also got Tahni a little Hello Kitty remote control car (only has one button!) in a pro-active bid to stop her interfering with the boys' ones, which she loves, so all three were very happy!
Ben has been a lot better in the initiative stakes since I got back - he actually got up and fed the kids when they were whinging on Thurs night while I was at the shops (getting things for tea!) without any input from or consultation with me. They were both sitting at the table eating soup & toast when I got back and I nearly fell over! Wonder how long that is going to last before he goes back to pretending he is dense. Tahni didn't want a bar of me putting her to bed that night, so Ben thought he was pretty hot shit. I think he thought I would be upset about it - how wrong was he!!! Bring it on I say.
Anyway, Ben & Brayden have gone to the beach this afternoon - as you do on a rainy 18 degree day??? - and Tahni is still asleep. She went to bed at around 1.30 and it's now 4, so if I'm lucky I'll get another half an hr to eat chocolate. And now that I've said that she will wake up as soon as I walk into the kitchen. Ciao for now!

September 25th, 2008
01:53 pm Well, I think we are going to go straight from Winter to Summer. Coz this sure as hell aint spring. I think we did that a couple of years ago too - went from cold & wet to stinking hot, and it wasn't pleasant. I need some adjustment time! I can't believe Sept is nearly over and we've only had about 3-4 days of Spring weather. Normally by this time of year I've tizzied the gardens right up and planted all of my summer seedlings, and fertilised the roses. Haven't even had half a chance to do anything outside so far this year. It pouuuurrred relentlessly last night - I woke up about four times during the night just from the noise of the rain. And today it's freezing cold. I think I am in for a bit of a culture shock come next Tuesday when I step outside in Dubai!
I just hope some of the rain got over Wagin way to help Phillip's crop - what went from looking like a fairly reasonable harvest has just gone to crap with no rain and frosts for 3 mornings last week. Not sure yet how the crop pulled up after the frosts but I'm assuming probably not too well. Up until the weekend they'd only had about 6mm of rain, which was kind of pointless coz it was also so windy that it just dried up as soon as it hit the ground. Fingers crossed some of this moisture makes it a bit further inland. MInd you, I was talking with one of the ladies in Tahni's room at daycare this morning and she was saying that where they live (a few k's out of town), they only got a few thunderclaps, lots of threatening wind but hardly any rain. Weird. It must just be targeting my house, which is typical. Our street is actually the highest point in town, so the clouds must know where to dump it anyway.
Brayden is actually napping again today, which I was surprised about but not complaining about! Even if he does have an afternoon sleep these days, it's not for very long. Maybe an hr and half, usually a bit less. He has been a bit worn out this week though, which was extremely evident at swimming yesterday. Normally I have to drag him out of the pool kicking and screaming, but yesterday he actually told me he was ready to get out. A full 10 minutes before he actually had to. I nearly choked and drowned. He also kept saying that he was a bit tired, which he doesn't say very often! Anyway, after we finished our last swimming session for the term (YAY!), we had lunch at a cafe for a special treat. We normally have something to eat at the pool afterwards, but felt like being out amongst it yesterday and it was the last chance I'll get to take them out for lunch for a couple of weeks so we splurged. It was lovely (except for when Tahni decided to try and get out of the highchair by sliding out the bottom and got completely wedged and screamed the joint down) and they were so full afterwards that they barely ate two bites of dinner last night. We were nearly finished when my Dad & aunty happened to come in for lunch, so ended up there for another hour! Was 2pm by the time I got home and Tahni was completely shattered and slept till 5. Brayden was really tired too, but it only took and hour and a bit sleep for him to recharge. Given that I'd been out since about 9.30am, got absolutely NOTHING done yesterday, so now trying to catch up today.
We are going to a friend's place to watch the Grand Final on Saturday after Ben finishes work, and apparently they've got that many kids coming that they've hired a bouncy castle! Wonder how many trips to the hospital are going to eventuate. Should be fun anyway. It's doubling as a thankyou/celebration for everyone that was involved in Wade's election campaign, as they (i.e. the MEN who have walnuts for brains) has originally planned to do this on Father's Day?? I (and no doubt a few other wives/mums) completely cracked the shits over this and they had the good sense to postpone it. In any case, this in all likelihood means a pretty long day & late night, therefore I only have the rest of today to finish washing/drying/ironing clothes, washing & changing beds and general cleaning up, so I can pack tomorrow. Have booked both the kids into daycare as I have a hair appt first thing in the morning, so I will be able to do the last of the food shopping afterwards, then go home and use the remaining couple of hours to get organised without any interruptions.
Had my 19 week scan this afternoon, which was very exciting! Didn't have it planned until after I got back, but earlier in the week I discovered the best time for it is actually between 18-19 weeks (like I'm supposed to remember these things!), which happens to be right now. Thankfully they had a cancellation for midday today, so it was perfect timing and I was able to change it. Also made me feel a bit better about not having to prepare for it the day I get back from holidays. Got another barrage of 'ohhh, its a little wriggler', 'oh what an active bubba', etc etc comments, which again made me dread the next 5ish months! I could even see it kicking away on the screen (v. long legs!) and they were very fast, sharp kicks. Yikes. Can already feel lots of movement, especially when I lie on my tummy, so looks like you can just call me the human football from now on. Ben strained so hard to try and detect a wizzer that his eyes nearly fell out of his head, but I was adamant it was to be a surprise so I think the female sonographer was on my side and wasn't going to give him half a chance to spot anything! He still reckons he did though, of course. Which he always does - with Brayden he just got lucky :P With lack of anything else to support his suspicions, he had to resort to the picture of the baby's face. Apparently it's exactly like a boy's face. Uh-huh ???? Still looks like an alien's face to me.
Anyway, enough procrastinating - going to get a few more things done around the house and then need to do some shopping once Brayden wakes up. Tahni is in desperate need of more socks! And I need more bras, which I deliberated about the practicality of buying now, but considering it seems the whole boobs-inflating-when-you're-pregnant thing only happens to OTHER people (not fair!), I guess it doesn't matter too much as I'll still be able to wear them up until the baby's born and then again once I finish feeding, so may as well buy them now if I need them!

01:46 pm - It's obviously in the genes from birth... To say I am completely over this weather would be a major understatement. I'm just SICK of not being able to get outside and do things, not being able to take the kids outside, not being able to get washing dry outside, blah blah. I always get like this at this time of year for some reason (i.e. Sept/Oct), in desperate need of a bit of sun and change of scenery to recharge my batteries in preparation for the end of the year. Even when I was working, it was always the time that I felt really drained and over everything and needed to take some annual leave to regroup my brain. Seems as though my holiday was planned for just the right time....it will be exactly what I need, in many ways.
Still haven't had an offer on the house, but it's not widely advertised at the moment. We've only got ads in the local paper as Ben doesn't want a sign up out the front yet. Our street gets major traffic and EVERYBODY knows our house (especially as it's right on the turnoff to 3 of the 4 schools and the leisure centre), and as he hasn't had a chance to sit the staff down and let them know what's going on yet he doesn't want it major public knowledge until he has. Suits me atm, coz I still have to finish off a bit of painting and gardening and general tidying outside, which I can't do til the weather fines up. I think as soon as a sign goes up it will go fairly quickly (when we brought it, I saw the sign one afternoon, went through it the next day and put an offer on it an hour later :P), so hopefully I'll be able to tackle all of my jobs when I get back and then we'll put one up. Then of course there's always the possibility that it won't sell for a while, meaning we will have to put off moving until after the baby is born. Which would be okay by me, provided we're moved within the 6 months after that. The thought of moving again is still enough to illicit a major panic attack....think I might have to recruit some helpers.
Tahni has been a right misery guts lately. Actually, no, more moody and hormonal haha. It's obviously in the genes from birth! She's perfectly happy and playful and agreeable one minute, then hanging on to my leg, whinging and moaning the next. This morning she stood on her head on the steps and bawled for 15 minutes solid because I said she'd had enough of watching Blue's Clue's (after 3 rounds of the same 2 episodes) for a while. It was hilarious, but the fact that I wasn't paying her any attention didn't make any difference. She was determined she was going to keep it up for as long as possible, just to prove her point. She eventually got over it when The Fairies came on TV. Her favourite word is also No, and not just when it is required. It's her standard answer to every single question, even if she wants to say Yes and really means Yes. It's still No. Almost like she is letting herself down on principle if she doesn't say it. E.g. "Would you like a banana Tahni?" "No narna." - complete with scowl/frown. "Ok, no narna". *Mum walks away* "PEASE MY WANT NARNA!!!" *jumps up and down and points at fruitbowl*.
I'm like, right, well why didn't you just say Yes?????? Coz that would be far too logical. She has four new teeth making their way through at the moment though, so given this current personality disorder and her constant dribbling nose and poo factory nappies, I'm assuming that's the cause and it will pass. God, I hope so. Otherwise I've come upon the terrible two's a tiny bit early. Considering how well-developed she is in the speech area for her age, this isn't totally out of the question, but I'm hoping for the former in any case. She has been sleeping a lot too, in my opinion a little too much (i.e. 3 hrs in the afternoon, then ready for another 12 hr sleep again 3.5-4 hrs after she wakes up). This isn't uncommon even when she is acting normally though, so the two may not be related. Brayden has only had about 1-2 afternoon sleeps in the last week, and thankfully today is one of them, so I actually get to have a bit of a sit down while they're both asleep. Preparing myself for food shopping once Ben gets home from work. HATE FOOD SHOPPING. The only thing I don't like about Brayden having a nap is that he tends to stay up a bit later at night, but tonight we are going to a friend's place later to watch the Hawks vs. Saints game (go Hawks!), so he should be nicely worn out by bedtime.
Finally got my e-tickets and docs for my trip yesterday, and now very excited!! This time next week I will be madly washing, ironing, packing and cleaning (as well as hosting a sausage sizzle for the Grand Final), but Sunday I'm off to Perth and then on my way. Catching up with Amber & Amanda on Sunday arvo before I go (staying at Amanda's that night - we can compare bumps, yay! - but we're all having dinner together which will be lovely), then fly out early Monday morning. Amber is booked in for a caesar a couple of days before I get back, so very stoked I will be able to visit her & bubba before I head back to Manj. Manda is currently on romantic weekend away complete with day spa pampering, so I'm sitting here thinking very jealous thoughts of her. Very much deserved on her part though, after two weeks of getting up at 3am - yuck!
Pregnancy wise, everything is going fine - no time to really think about it most of the time! To the point where just this morning, Ben asked if I'd seen his passport during the search for mine, as he is talking about going to visit Benny in Holland at some stage. Then he said 'I might go in February' with a big smirk on his face. I just looked at him blankly and was like, 'And why would that be a problem?'. Der. Extremely der. Took me about a minute to get and he just shook his head and walked off. The fact that I was up to my elbows in breakfast duty while he had been sitting down with a cuppa might have had something to do with my mind blank when it comes to his jokes. Turns out that I'm only just going to squeeze in my 20 wk scan in the allotted time, as the time I'm away is exactly when I'm 19-20.3 wks, so I managed to get in literally the DAY I get back to Manji, when I will be 20.4 weeks. Not really sure what I would have done otherwise! Hope I'm not too tired/jetlagged to remember all the pre-scan drinking/weeing rules.
Right, I wasn't actually hungry when I fed the kids lunch coz I had a big breakfast, but I'm definitely hungry now so going to find something to make out of the ABSOLUTELY NOTHING we have in the house, as Ben still isn't home from work (surprise, surprise) so I can go shopping. Oh yeah, I've got a printer to install at 1.30 and I'll be home by 2. Pfft to that. Ciao for now!

01:43 pm
Ben's birthday on Friday was pretty much the same as any other day - he headed off to work (which was also the last day of the election campaign so he was very anxious & preoccupied) after opening his presents and then we all went about our normal business. Tahni missed the present opening though as she was still asleep. Daddy just had to make do with a mouthful-of-Weetbix kiss when he got out of the shower. Lovely.
So I was looking forward to the election being over so that life could return to some resemblance of normal - thankfully it is a lot better, although the process of obtaining 'closure' seems to be taking a little while longer than first thought for my husband and his associates! Our local candidate, Wade, did get beaten quite comprehensively, for reasons I personally believe were through not fault of his own. Those who have been following the washup from the election will understand it was anything from straightforward, and most definitely not over yet! Wade hosted a dinner on Sat night for the vote count, which had all the makings of being a great night, but obviously ended up a pretty somber affair with most people (actually it seems EVERYONE except ME) took full advantage of the open bar to drown their sorrows. Everyone was trying to be upbeat and just enjoy the occassion to socialise, but it was very hard. The kids on the other hand, had a great night running around with all of the other little ones that were there, and getting to have chips for tea. It was nice catching up with all of the ladies and actually chat, as we see each other around a lot but just don't get a chance to catch up properly coz we're all so busy with kids! Eventually got the kids home and into bed around 10ish, so it was a very late night for them. Ben reported that they had to drag Wade out by his feet at about 2am, although how Ben was actually capable of knowing anyone's name, let alone dragging them, is beyond me. I felt really sad a lot of the night that a couple of lovely ladies who have worked for our previous local member for as long as I can remember ended up losing their jobs, as that member retired and without a new one to replace him, suddenly found themselves unemployed! Unfortunately on a personal level, it also means we lost a long-standing tenant of two offices in our building, dropping the monthly rental income considerably, which in turn lowers the value of the whole property and how much we can sell it for, which isn't the best news for us seeing as we need a certain amount for it to break even on it's debt. We are now represented by a member of parliament who is based over Mt Barker/Denmark way, and we are hoping he will staff an office here (which all other things aside I think is kind of necessary anyway), so we'll just have to wait and see what happens there.
Sunday Ben got woken up by the kids delivering their Father's Day goodies, and had it not been Father's Day I think they would have received a few choice words. The upside of course was that it was later than it normally would have been, around 9.30, as they'd had such a late night. Ahhhh, a sleep-in! I will give Ben some credit though coz he did actually get out of bed. I made ham & cheese croissants, bacon & eggs for brekky and then Ben proceeded to mope around the house sulking and re-hashing the whole campaign & election day a zillion times, while the kids spent all morning playing nicely together outside, as the weather was lovely. One of the other guys on Ben's team, Ross, showed up at around lunchtime, beer in hand, so they sulked and moped together. Along with Wade, they had become very 'Three Amigo'-ish. Don't think they were game to see how Wade was going though! We had planned to head out to the farm to visit my dad at some point, but Tahni & I ended up going out by ourselves at around 4.30 and leaving Ben & a still sleeping Brayden behind. My brother & Harlee arrived about 5 minutes after Tahni & I, and it turned out mum didn't have any plans for tea and Dad felt like Chinese, so I got Ben to get some from Manji and bring it down. Ended up having a lovely evening and was glad we all ended up there eventually. I put Tahni to bed there but Brayden stayed up, so by the time we headed home and got them back into bed it was another late night. Another sleep-in on Monday though, YAY! Monday was 1 year since Ben's 30th party and the kids naming day, and I spent a lot of the day reflecting on how much the kids have changed in a year, and the fact that it had been a whole YEAR since I had seen so many people! It was such a good day/night.
Had my latest docs appt on Tues (back to weeing in jars and hanging around waiting rooms), and have put on WAY more weight thank I would have like :( ALREADY! And I've been walking more too. What does one do?? Oh well, the weight has come off okay after the last two babies so hopefully it will after this one too. Tuesday night Ross & Wade showed up again, and a bottle of Jameson's & a feed of my spaghetti later, the stories were getting very long and very loud. Thankfully Wade's wife rang looking for him so he got his marching orders from me, and Ross & Ben toned it down a bit so I could actually put the kids to bed. I'm wondering exactly how long this is going to go on for!!
The most exciting news of the week is that I finally booked my ticket to Dubai on Tuesday hoo fucking ray!! I leave early in the morning of Sept 29th (public holiday in WA), which is a mere 18 sleeps away! So excited now that I'm actually going. Had a bit of a panic attack yesterday when I had an inkling that my passport may expire in Feb next year - apparently it needs to have 6 months validity from the date you return to Australia when travelling to Dubai - but it was all good, it doesn't expire until 2010. Had a bit of a strange experience when I rang our health insurance fund to buy some travel insurance - the girl on the phone assumed it was for 2 adults and two kids and when I said No, just me, she asked how I managed to score a trip to Dubai all by myself. When I told her the story, she launched into a full-blown epic saga about HER past birthday presents and the snowboard she got from her boyfriend for her 31st birthday when she had actually requested jewellery, blah blah. It went on for about 5 minutes (while I'm thinking HELLO, I'm on my mobile here!!) and I had to try really hard to make short, polite comments and not cack myself laughing. It was very odd! The cost of the travel insurance will cut a little bit into my spending money, but given that if Murphy's Law is ever to apply it will ALWAYS be to me, plus the fact I'm pregnant, means I couldn't really risk not having it. Would be just my luck to turn up in Dubai while my luggage ends up in Japan or something. I can't wait to see all that Dubai has to offer anyway, and of course spend some actual quality time with Lisa, Duane & Eloise! Still can't quite believe I am actually going to be sans-children for 10 whole days. Bliss. Funny, most people hate the actual flight, but that's one of the bits I'm looking forward to the most! Fourteen whole hours all by myself to read books, magazines, watch movies, sleep and eat meals UNINTERRUPTED. Somebody pinch me.
Okay, Tahni is at Timbertots today and Brayden, although he didn't want a nap today, is playing quietly by himself so I'm going to have a cuppa and see how far I can get through my latest magazine.
Oh, I just remembered we have someone coming to look at the house at 2pm tomorrow. Maybe I'd better clean instead.

02:22 pm We are getting a humungous Kitchen Needs store!! You know the chain one like House, KitchenWitch etc. It's going in the old Toyworld building. How exciting. Not that I'll get to make use of it for very long, but it will be lovely for a short while. Recently I've tried to find a garlic grater, some decent wooden spoons, a frypan splatter guard and a rubber grip vegie peeler at various times and have been unsuccessful in all of the above (Rose's Gifts were always 'oh sorry, not at the moment but we do have some on order'), blah blah. So it will be nice to know I can actually get stuff. A little too late for all of the wedding/engagement/birthday presents that I've either never been able to get down here, or have to pay a bomb for at Rose's, but nevermind.
Makes me think how far the town has come since we first moved back 5.5 yrs ago. Also makes me a little bit proud that we were one of the first, if not the first, to kickstart the trend and have a bit of faith after the whole population was all doom and gloom and we're-going-to-become-a-ghost-town after the timber industry collapse back then. Our thinking was that things like that happen to small towns all the time and people just need to forge new paths and take a few risks. The fact that we've proven that point, and pretty damn convincingly if I do say so myself, is hopefully what inspired at least a few of the others who followed suit. The amount of new businesses that have opened and/or grown, expanded and refurbished since we did is just great! The only one who has actually failed is the lolly shop, which I think was only partly due to 'family illness' as they cited and more to do with them completely missing the boat when it came to using the shop to it's full potential and the lady behind the counter that looked like she was going to breathe fire on you if you dared to walk through the door.
Spent most of the morning after dropping Tahni at Timbertots walking the streets with Brayden trying to work out what the HELL to get Ben for his bday tomorrow and Dad's day on Sunday. The fact that they are so close is very annoying, but I guess it at least means I only have to walk the streets like a blank-minded zombie once a year. Everyone I bumped into and felt the need to explain my plight to only had smart-arse suggestions like, 'what about a 1Gb thumb drive", or "a voucher from Leading Edge Computers!" or "get him a digital camera" (of course guffawing and thinking they were incredibly humorous). How very un-helpful. He's got all the jewellery he needs, 40 gazillion watches, a good pen, WAY too much electronics stuff (most if it which he no longer uses/needs), I'm not getting him anything for his car or a voucher relating to same coz I'm always cracking heads with him about the shit he puts on/in his car, he's not into golf or reading, he has every item imaginable relating to fishing/camping, and that really doesn't leave too much. Thought about a bottle of his fave (and very pricey) red wine, but stuff that if I can't drink it with him! Anyway I ended up having a lightbulb moment after I recalled him hunting around in the shed for matches last night to light his cigarette (little does he know I have a hoarde of about 15 lighters in the laundry that I find in his pockets), and brought him a stainless steel Zippo gift set, complete with fluid and replacement flints, with his name engraved on it so no-one is tempted to tax it like the other ones he has had. Also got him a little leather belt pouch especially for it as not all of his work shirts have pockets. I was pretty happy with that in the end. That's for his birthday, and when I asked Brayden what Daddy might like for his 'special' day - he's really not up with the concept of Father's Day yet - he said he was SURE daddy wants a train from the yellow shop (i.e. Toyworld). Ahem. In the end he settled for a West Coast coffee mug that sings the theme song. When we were in Woolies yesterday I got Tahni to choose something from the chocolate section and once I finally coaxed her into putting down the Disney Princess kinder surprise (although the resulting tears and tantrums meant she got to keep it for herself), she settled on a jar of chocolate peanuts for daddy. And after all that, there's still MY dad to think about. JEEBUS!!
Don't even know if Ben will be home for his bday in the morning, as he is off around the countryside today delivering polling place propaganda. Considering the changes to the electoral boundaries mean that we are now Blackwood-Stirling and spread practically right across the lower half of the state, that's a fair whack of countryside. I think he was heading over in the Nannup/Busso/Margs/Augusta direction and around that way and two other guys are doing the Denmark/Walpole and Bridgetown/Boyup directions. Anyway, he said that IF he comes home it will be very late, otherwise he will camp the night wherever he ends up. Lovely. He left to go to Perth at 4am yesterday and got home about 8pm last night, and hasn't been home before 7pm any other night for the last two weeks, so he's lucky I don't wrap up some lovely divorce papers for his birthday :P Roll on Saturday. Or more precisely Sunday, when it will be all over. Not least of all so that all the crap junk mail will stop!!
In some other very exciting news, I got a lovely chq from the Tax Office the morning, being my return for the 06/07 year and my arrears from the Family Assistance office, totally nearly $2300. AND I'VE STILL GOT 07/08 TO COME!! Yee-fucking-har. So, after I had stopped jumping around like a loony in front of our post office box, I went and put it straight in the bank and come Monday, WILL BE BOOKING MY TICKET TO DUBAI. No negotiations with husband entered into. I need a break so badly at the moment that I don't really CARE about all of the other 'far more practical' uses the money could have. I will worry about being broke again at xmas when that time comes. Consider it my wages since giving up work to become a mum 3.5 years ago. Hmm. Let me just do some quick sums. Gee, that's a whole $12.63 a week. Outstanding. I definitely need a holiday now....and a stiff drink.
Oh, that's right, I can't have a stiff drink. Sigh.
